Martin is a commercial litigator with experience assisting clients in all aspects of complex commercial litigation matters.

Prior to joining Massey & Gail, he worked as an attorney at Sidley Austin LLP. Martin graduated from New York University School of Law, where he served as Notes Editor for the Annual Survey of American Law. While at N.Y.U., Martin served as an extern for the Civil Division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York.

Martin has maintained a thriving pro bono practice with a focus on civil rights litigation. He has worked with the ACLU Voting Rights Project, the ACLU Racial Justice Program, the Ohio Innocence Project, Prisoners’ Legal Services of New York, Mobilization for Justice, Her Justice, and Sanctuary for Families.

  • Defends companies in breach of contract litigations, including finance company in eight-figure disputes against insurance carriers.
  • Represented individual director of Fortune 1 company in connection with securities class action litigation, which successfully negotiated settlement.
  • Represented Fortune 20 company in connection with temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction litigation in United States Bankruptcy Court, which successfully resolved.
  • Defended closed-end fund in connection with Second Circuit Court of Appeals litigation under Investment Company Act of 1940.
  • Represented private equity companies and individual private equity directors in other matters.
  • Represented individuals and entities in connection with investigations, including individual director targeted in antitrust investigation of eleven-figure company, special litigation committee for bankruptcy investigation for eight-figure real estate company, and former government official in Southern District of New York investigation of now convicted public figure.
  • Won opposition to motion to compel response to non-party subpoena for sensitive business information for private equity company.
  • Defended other non-party subpoena and civil investigatory demand targets, including financial institutions such as JPMorgan Chase Bank, N.A.
  • Represented victim of solitary confinement in complex federal court litigation against sixteen New York officials.
  • Represented death row incarcerated individual in connection with Ohio Innocence Project litigation concerning suppressed Brady material.
