Jeremy has over a decade of experience representing and advising clients in regard to both trial and appellate litigation. Jeremy draws on his diverse, unique background to bring creative solutions and strategies to bear, whether in a complex commercial dispute, massive regulatory challenge, or a more individual matter.

Jeremy has taught Constitutional Law at The University of Chicago Law School and has published articles on legislative chaplaincies and political speech. His scholarship has been cited by academics, appellate briefs, Witkin’s Summary of California Law, the Seventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court.

Prior to joining Massey & Gail, Jeremy was an associate at Sidley Austin and Kirkland & Ellis, focusing on securities litigation, bank regulation, environmental litigation, patents, and appellate matters. Jeremy earned a Ph.D. in ethics from The University of Chicago Divinity School and a J.D. from The University of Chicago Law School, with Honors and Order of the Coif. In law school, Jeremy was Editor-in-Chief of The University of Chicago Law Review.

  • Represented water filter manufacturer in a complex distribution agreement dispute regarding the distributor’s exclusive right to deal the manufacturer’s product in North America.
  • Successfully defended water filter manufacturer in a lawsuit in California state court over the performance of its water filters in a water treatment plant in Bakersfield, California.
  • Briefed first-ever successful Supreme Court stay of agency regulation prior to judicial review in lower courts.
  • Successfully reversed district court’s outcome-determinative exclusion of damages expert under Fed. R. Evid. 702 and Daubert in a securities fraud case.
  • Researched and drafted constitutional challenge to EPA Clean Power Plan.
  • Successfully represented a businessman in his suit against former business partners for failing to pay royalties on a patent portfolio.
  • Successfully represented a health club owner/operator, in negotiations with a former business partner who had failed to pay an agreed percentage of the revenues from the operation of another club.
  • Assisted in drafting comments to the US Environmental Protection Energy on behalf of an energy company regarding proposed rules for EPA’s “Clean Power Plan.”
  • Assisted with compiling and presenting extensive and complex expert testimony to Minnesota Public Utilities Commission regarding federal “social cost of carbon” regulations.
  • Advised asbestos-defendant shipping line in negotiations regarding settlement of 20-year old malpractice lawsuit by asbestos defendant shipping line, including preparing a litigation alternative and counseling on strongest lines of negotiation pressure.
  • Guided client in appealing denial of qualified time for Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, resulting in full eligibility.
